After the initial success of Ontario’s recycling programs, in recent years recycling and waste diversion have plateaued. To continue on the path of reducing landfill-bound waste and pollution Ontario has developed a new blue box program. With the transition towards this new program set to begin on July 1st 2023, we have designed this course to help you gain an understanding of this program and why it is important for a zero-waste future. This course will explain the history of the previous blue box program and why it did not work. Then we will discuss Ontario’s new blue box program and some key factors, timelines, and changes associated with the switch. Finally, we will discuss the impacts on municipalities, citizens, and businesses. Ecodemy’s purpose is to deliver engaging sustainability education tools to build a foundation for a greener future.
